Let’s Pray For Our Kids

My counsel for you is simple and straightforward: Just go ahead with what you’ve been given. You received Christ Jesus, the Master; now live him. You’re deeply rooted in him. You’re well constructed upon him. You know your way around the faith. Now do what you’ve been taught. School’s out; quit studying the subject and start living it! And let your living spill over into thanksgiving. (Colossians 2:6, 7 MSG)

I read this passage today and wanted to pray it would be true for our children. Isn’t it the goal of all parents that what we’ve taught our kids they will live?

They need our guidance, our instruction, rules, consequences, boundaries right now, but a measure of maturity is the ability to live without supervision, relying on internal convictions and discipline. It’s true for Christ followers and children. We start out needing rules and then hopefully grow to live out what we’ve learned.

As our kids are all beginning the school year let’s pray that they learn more than a curriculum. Let’s pray that they learn the tenants of faith, that their “living spills over into thanksgiving” as they mature.

Father, thank you that you are a kind instructor, giving us your word, your Spirit, your principles, and godly leaders. Please give us the wisdom as guardians of our kids to instruct them in truth. I pray that we will live lives rooted in truth, spilling over in thanksgiving, as a testimony to our children of the good life found in you. As our kids learn this year may they learn the most important things, the knowledge of Christ and the way of faith. May they continue to mature, growing up in you, spilling over in thanksgiving. Thank you for the privilege to teaching our children your word, your truth. Empower us as ambassadors for you in our own homes. Amen.

Learning to live in Christ is a life long pursuit, one that can begin in childhood. How are you helping your children to mature in faith and life in Christ?

  1. I’ve been encouraging my boys since last year to pray for 3 people at school daily – not just their good friends but also for the ones that aren’t. Right now their family and their school is their mission field. Yes – they need to be encouraged to lived it, walk it out – not just morning and evening prayers:) Thank you for your prayer to start our school year:)

I love a good conversation! Share your thoughts and let's get one started!
